Cartography Kickoff

After drawing THIS fancy little picture right here, I see my traveling and map-drawing from last year as practice, and THIS year as the real deal. Unlike my previous map, this one is drawn to scale, with the length of each graph square equal to ten paces.

Today I have started my map off by drawing out the house, the yard, and the site. The house is marked with a star, while the yard has an arrow, but that arrow not only acts as a label but as a compass as well.

You see, that arrow represents the arrow I drew out last night with a piece of chalk. I pointed in the direction where I found the north star last night and used the chalk to remember that direction for today.

It took a lot of walking and measuring to get that first piece of the map finished, but it was worth it! ...It's certainly a change from THIS old map over here, but it sure is nice to see some progress.

It's good every now and then to remember what you started off with and to see how far you've gotten since then.

...But now that the home base is complete, the REAL travels begin next time. The Ring will be back on the road to adventure real soon!
