I have pondered a great deal about them in my plans for my future YouTube channel. Lately, I've been relating to so MANY of them, both comic books and TV shows alike, that I think I must be crazy!
...I told this to my sister, Blue Ice, and she said that she knows what I mean. She does that too, and she said that although fiction is derived from imagination, it always has a real-life influence SOMEWHERE in there... which causes you to put yourself in other character's shoes and learn how to understand other people better.
...She's the literature and humanities expert in my family, and I can't help but agree with everything she said. It certainly makes sense to me; not to mention, her knowledge in this subject REALLY astounds me. But it ALSO astounds me that where my sis and I were from, our elementary schools DISCOURAGED us from fictional stories and pushed us to read nonfiction and chapter books. It seems like killjoy, injustice, and just screwing the youth up in my point of view even to this day, but on the other hand, maybe elementary youngsters just aren't ready to learn the true power of fiction.
Take the red legend from an old video game and a new TV show for example: "Carmen Sandiego". A black sheep; set apart from most people and in a league of her own... Kinda like me, I think. And just like Sandiego, I'm aiming to forge my own heroic path. ...After all, the TV show did say that ANYONE can be Carmen Sandiego if they just have the heart and determination to DO it!
THAT lesson REALLY speaks to me. I mean, I put a heck of a lot of heart into making that movie, Battle Morale! ...Except Battle Morale isn't really a fictional story I just made up. It's about me, really forging my own quest and taking it head-on. ...Kinda like an autobiography, I guess. But it excites me knowing of all the features my movie has that are found in imaginative hero stories ALL THE TIME... You've got the long journey, the said character going against the grain and against the odds, impacted by an unforgettable backstory that they often wish they WOULD forget... but they eventually choose to rise up and take a stand. ...Just like in "Avatar: the Last Airbender"! There are 2 heroes there that fit that description: Zuko and Aang. ...This especially fits Zuko.
...It's taken me a long time to recognize myself in certain fictional stories and characters such as these. Probably because watching the cartoons isn't enough; it takes experience; finding out who you are and what you do, and knowing which stories are similar or different than what YOU have to offer. The power of fiction really is a lot to take in, and great power comes great responsibility, as we all say.
My other favorite fictional heroes such as Spider-Man and Ladybug take on enormous responsibilities from the greater good, and have found that taxes their sanity from time to time! ...But they're persistent. And I try to do that too. (...Heck, this is what goes on in my Poptropi-Con comics!)
Like Spider-Man, I like to be funny and I strive to be brave and fight the battles worth fighting. There are times when it feels like the whole WORLD's against me, but I try not to think about that. I'd much rather stay calm and stay cool.
...And like Ladybug, I hone my creative powers and I ALSO have a hard time being proud of myself... Like when you try real hard to do good but it always feels like you coulda tried harder?
...It's with these reasons that this one quote speaks to me from that Ladybug show: "You are an amazing ladybug. You have made mistakes, but who hasn't? It's how we fix them that matters! And you know how to fix ANYTHING!" ...I am definitely winging the quote and it doesn't go like that word for word, but it still inspires me anyway.
Yes, I know. Surprise surprise, these characters from comics and cartoons are all heroes! What did ya expect, a band of supervillains?
I think that what is REALLY surprising here is that these heroes are all RED! Zuko, Carmen, Spider-Man, Ladybug... Even my MOVIE cover is red!
...Heck, I'm even WEARING red! AND writing in a red journal right next to a red couch! HA HA HA... What IS it with me and red today? Talk about being in the red zone in my thinking! Or perhaps I should say red HAT. I learned about red hat thinking in middle school, and that kind of thinking boils down to "how does that make you feel?" My answer being, "I feel like THESE people!
There are 5 other kinds of thinking that I know of: White hat, black hat, blue hat, green hat, and yellow hat thinking. But there has been quite enough thinking for one post just from the color red, wouldn't you say? The rest of those colors are another story, for another time. After all, we can't think TOO hard, am I right?
