Today in class we learned that there are lots of problems in the world and that we always look for solutions to those problems. That's probably a given, but the part that ISN'T a given is that solutions always lead to more problems. It's like when you have a question, but the moment you find an answer, fifty more questions come up in your mind in effect.
This is so with our dialectic fights. Our teacher told us all that we all seem to be looking for perfect solutions throughout our dialectic fights that WON'T cause any more problems. (Guilty as charged, that's me right there.) But he told us it won't work; that no matter what we do, all of our dialectic fights are gonna cause some sort of problem. It will be hurtful in some way and someone will always be offended. ANY tool we use will cause some sort of problem, and that's what they mean by there being no sword with no blood on it. (And I believe it. Even the HOLY sword has blood all over it!)
So what can we do? We can't prevent every problem, but we can mitigate whatever problems there might be (by preparing for them and shrinking them down). In our dialectic fights, we do that by keeping an open mind and really getting to know both sides of an issue. None of us can do it perfectly, but we can at least try our best. This way, we don't solve everything, but we can aim to make things better one step at a time. Doesn't that sound more manageable?
-But what's this got to do with my movie? Try EVERYTHING. Throughout my movie planning, I feared my new movie would shock and provoke many. I feared the same for my dialectic fight website project. In no way am I intending for these projects to be mean or anything, but I've been worried sick that so many would take offense anyway! I kept wondering how do you NOT make something without people being provoked, and how do you use these digital tools (or ANY tools for that matter) WITHOUT the "spilling of blood"?
...And today, I got my answer. You can't. But perhaps that's ok. Bloodshed doesn't always happen because you're doing something bad. Sometimes you have to do it when you're in a war or something in order to deliver justice. ...Like maybe in a pirate warship fight! Now THAT I know will be in my movie. And I know it'll be WORTH it too.
I am creating my new movie and dialectic site solely to come to an understanding. (OK, not solely. It's also for a good grade but MAINLY for understanding.) I can't do it perfectly, but I can still do the best I can. And so I shall!
...But that's not to say I'm putting my dialectic site on my HQ controls yet. It ain't finished. I didn't add my pirate site or Einstein site to my control panel incomplete; it's best to just add those sites when they're good and ready. And as our teacher also said, "I'd rather have you finish it well than finish it by the due date. If you need more time, take it." ...And I will. This is exactly why I gave myself more time for this movie than my other movie in the first place!
